This past year I wanted to make a difference in my community in order to combat climate change. I reached out to a local organization, Casa Mateo, and asked if they needed any projects done as they relate to the climate. I was told that the shelter desperately needed a community garden. So I taken on the challenge of establishing the community garden. The first step of the process was building garden boxes to plant vegetables for Casa Mateos residents, so over the past month, I did this with the help of friends and family. I have now started step 2, which is building a rain-water collection system. My goal is to establish this system so that Casa Mateo will become more sustainable. I hope that in completing this project, I can encourage other organizations to follow in their footsteps to become more climate-friendly.
